What is Mono Writer?
Mono Writer is a distraction-free focus-writing app that makes you finish. Set a goal (time or word count) and lock the screen, and there's no way out until you hit it — blocking distractions so you focus only on the writing. It's designed around one first principle: "you never lose what you wrote."
How does the lock work? Isn't it dangerous if I can't get out?
When you set a goal and lock, the menu bar & Dock are hidden, key shortcuts like Cmd+Tab and Cmd+Q are blocked, and you're pinned to a borderless fullscreen for writing. It releases automatically once you reach your time or word-count goal. In every case, an OS-level force shutdown (power/system shutdown) is always available, so you never lose control of your device.
Which devices can I use it on?
Lock strength varies by platform. On macOS you get a hard lock that forces focus by hiding the menu bar & Dock, blocking shortcuts, and going fullscreen. On iPhone, iPad, and Android, operating-system policy doesn't allow forcibly blocking system switching, so you get a soft lock that keeps you on the writing screen, plus goal sessions (time/word count) and reading, editing, and cloud sync. Windows is in preparation.
Where is my writing stored?
Your writing is stored locally on your device and, at the same time, safely in your own cloud (iCloud Drive on Apple devices). It is never transmitted to or stored on our (We've Solutions) servers. Separately from the local database, every document is also mirrored as a file in the app data directory, so it's restored on launch even if data is wiped.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Mono Writer works right away with no sign-up or login. No account, no subscription, no tracking. Sync across Apple devices uses the iCloud (Apple) account already signed in on your device, so no separate company account is created.
How much does it cost?
Mono Writer starts free. Core features like the hard lock and goal sessions, plus iCloud sync across Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac), are all free. No subscription, in-app purchase, ads, or account. A paid plan will add cross-platform sync with non-Apple platforms such as Windows and Android, and is currently in preparation.
